Film Portfolio

Hi! I'm Mei, a filmmaker and creative media practitioner interested in storytelling, visual composition, and the little details that make a story feel alive.

This page is a collection of my short films and personal film projects, where I've dabbled writing, directing, producing, editing, cinematography, sound, and visual effects. Each project has been an opportunity to experiment, learn something new, and develop my own approach and style to filmmaking!

I'm still growing as a filmmaker, and that's part of what I enjoy about making these projects! Every single one of my film teaches me something different. Alongside each project, I've included a little more about my process, what I was exploring, and what I learned along the way.

If you want to see other, more silly little projects I've done, please follow my instagram: @mt_scene06 !

THE GAME!

Director, Cinematographer, Editor, Producer, Animator: Mei Thistlethwaite (Meee!!)
Actors: Mei Thistlethwaite & Sean Gough

MUSIC FROM: Say That You Love Me - Fleetwood Mac!

This was mainly a summer fun project of me and seans, sort of documenting our little dates we went on, but then it sort of moulded itself into this fun, lighthearted game of rock paper scissors!! I did honeslty focus on finding unique shots, and really just experimenting with the framings, the lighting etc, finding spots to film was so so fun!!! (Thank you Teenage Head Records!!!) I would definitely focus more on my sound, SFX is SO difficult to me it really is, I admire anyone that is in the field. I had so much fun with this, and I also got to fiddle with colour grading more, with its endless fruit! If remade, I would honestly work on the sound dialogue and writing a more flowy, scripted, script...?

P.S - you should watch to the VERY end ;)

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE ME?

Official Selection / Premiered at: Raintown Film Festival  ☆
Official Selection: First-Time Filmmaker Sessions (by Lift-Off Global Network)  ☆

Director, Cinematographer, Editor, Producer, Animator: Mei Thistlethwaite (Meee!!)
Actors: Mei Thistlethwaite & Sean Gough

MUSIC FROM: Instrumentals of Chemtrails - Lizzy Mcalpine (actually tried recording the piano...)

My first major passion project of mine that I worked on from March 2026 all the way to May 2026, as a dedication to my dad, who passed away from cancer the year before. He always had believed that I could make my dreams come true, and it would take hard work, but hard work is often rewarded with more than just luxury, you earn dignity, resilience and pride in ones self.

My dad always helped me course my life to who I wanted to become, without the disruption of others gossip. I wanted to try creating this intimate bound with the viewer and the diary's character as it's how I feel with my writing. I focused heavily on the reflection of one's self, how the people they grow up with can and will impact their future and their mentality. If remade, l would've preferred to have more vide angle shots of scenery's, but I completely content with this film.

MIRROR

Director, Cinematographer, Editor, Producer: Mei Thistlethwaite (Meeee333eeee!!)
Actors: Mei Thistlethwaite & Sean Gough

MUSIC FROM: Indigo - Adrianne Lenker, Knocking’ on heavens door - Bob Dylan & Landslide - Fleetwood Mac

A short film that expresses the journey of grief through a woman yearning to relive the memories with her partner, finding a mirror that allows her to rewatch all of her fondest moments. I focused a lot on the visual cinema and framing in this piece, as well as learning more about colour grading. This was my first film ever doing my own SFX, so a lot of it was raw and quite unrefined as I am learning through my own process. If remade, I’d focus a lot more on the sound design as I found it shapes the majority of a film which immerses the entire viewer experience.

TEA4TWO

Director, Cinematographer, Editor, Producer: Mei Thistlethwaite (Mee!!)
Actors: Mei Thistlethwaite & Neha Ahmer

MUSIC FROM: Fantastic Mr. Fox!!!

A short film that explores the contrasting actions of an optimist versus a pessimist and how it creates a different perspective of life, through the same ritual - drinking tea. I focused on the storytelling of two character without verbal communication, mainly through colour grading, character actions and blocking. If remade, I would have preferred to add more shots with a variation of framing to make it visually interesting for the audience.
